SOTETSU & KIKU

Sago Palm and Chrysanthemum

Since ancient times, the sago palm (sotetsu) has been believed to possess immense vitality, and at times was considered a symbol of power and wealth.

Its slender, pointed leaves were said to ward off evil spirits and invite good fortune, leading to its frequent depiction on black formal kimono (kurotomesode) in certain historical periods.

The chrysanthemum, on the other hand, holds the meaning of "nobility" in the language of flowers. Adopted as the Imperial crest during the Kamakura period, it has since become a flower deeply cherished by the Japanese people as a symbol of purity and dignity.

The dynamic, rare blossoms and leaves of the sago palm represent fortune.
The graceful, noble bloom of the chrysanthemum symbolizes beauty.

This souvenir jacket embodies these two wishes.
