KUJYAKU & GOSHO-GURUMA
KUJYAKU & GOSHO-GURUMA
The peacock was first introduced to Japan during the Asuka period (710-794), and the Chronicles of Japan records a record of this rare bird.
Since ancient times, the peacock has been worshipped as a guardian god because of its incomparable beauty and because it eats poisonous snakes that can harm people.
In India, it was the national bird, in Greece, it was an incarnation of the goddess Hera, and in Japan, the peacock was worshipped as a symbol of “immortality” and “prosperity.
The aristocrats of the Heian period (794-1185) dreamed and imagined the heavenly realm of the peacock, and painted Buddhist pictures of it, which made their hearts burn.
The road to the heavenly paradise is a ride on a court carriage surrounded by beautiful flowers to the purple clouds.
This is a piece that contains such an elegant and sacred story.
