KUMOI-NO-KARI
KUMOI-NO-KARI
In the night sky where the moon is dimmed, clouds drift,
and through the gaps in the clouds, a flock of geese overlapping like diamonds appears and disappears…
The people of old, with their rich imagination,
drew inspiration from nature and expressed it in beautiful paintings and fabrics.
The diamond motif is an ancient pattern,
one often used by the Imperial family and the court,
and it is said to embody profound meaning—holding both stability and transformation at once.
Moreover, the "Kuyō-mon" crest on this kimono
represents the sun and the seven luminary stars that surround it,
a symbol that visualized the heavens and became an object of reverence.
The diamond motif and the Kuyō crest—
both can be seen as great patterns expressing humanity’s awe and longing
for the cosmos and the unseen realms.
The fabric, rare for a kurotomesode,
is a firm, weighty pure silk usually used for men’s formal attire.
