This is a weave in which indigo cross-shaped kasuri patterns are neatly lined up in a mud-dyed pattern.
From a distance it looks like mud brown, but when you get closer, the indigo stands out, creating a simple yet elegant Oshima silk.
Kasuri is a weaving technique in which pre-dyed threads are used in the warp, weft, or both to weave a pattern.
We were lucky enough to come across a set of haori and naginata that had the weight and delicacy reminiscent of Oshima weaving in its heyday, and we decided to use a single pattern in order to let the weaver experience firsthand the true joy of kasuri weaving.
Buttons are made of different French antiques.
The “mulberry leaf dyed” body lining pays homage to silk.
